Bio:

After graduating from high school, I started college at DLC. After my sophomore year, I went with a group to Tom’s River, New Jersey to work with the church there. During that time I had my first date with Randy. We married the next summer (we had our 39th anniversary this year). In May ’67, I graduated with a teaching degree.

In January ’68, we moved to Abilene so that Randy could complete his M.S. degree in Missions. Our plans were for him to complete the degree and then for us to go to the mission field. While he was in school, Randy began to work part-time at the Herald of Truth radio and television ministry. I worked at several different jobs, but when I became pregnant, I “retired” and Randy began to work full-time.

Stacia was born in ’69; In ’71 we adopted Mark, and Randy got his M.S. Shana was born in May ’73. In October ’73 Randy became very ill with Lymphoma. God was gracious, and Randy went into remission but continued chemotherapy for 2 years. During this time he began to write about his experiences. Because of how we had been blessed, we felt the need to reach out to others in similar situations -- so we started the Caring Ministry. In ’78, we adopted a beautiful baby girl, Shara. Our pediatrician said, “I am so glad that you’re starting to live again!”

In ’81, Randy’s cancer returned and he had to have chemotherapy one week out of three for the whole year. He then had 24 cancer-free years until it returned several months ago. However, now there are new treatments for Lymphoma that attack only the cancer cells, and there are a lot fewer side effects. Randy has completed 2 sets of 4 treatments and the lymph nodes have shrunk dramatically.  The doctor is very positive.

Despite cancer, we have had a wonderful life. We never made it to the mission field, but Randy has worked at the Herald of Truth for 36 years, and through his work we have been blessed with some incredible experiences and met some wonderful people. We were able to go to Russia. I never dreamed that I would stand in Red Square and then be interviewed on Russian TV about the difference Christ could make in a marriage. We were also able to go to the Holy Land with a group of ministers from many different religious groups.

We have five “precious” grandchildren now with our most recent addition. Stacia and Adam Looney live in Allen, Texas and have Jenna-2 and Jonathan-3 months. Mark and Natasha live in Houston. Shana is single and lives in Plano, Texas. Shara and Byrron Wilson live in Abilene and have Breylin-11, B.J.-4, and Ashlen - born September 11th.

For 17 years I have been blessed to work part-time in a Christian Food Pantry. I am also very involved teaching Ladies’ Bible classes using a method I learned from Precept Ministries. I love to travel, and I love to come home. I have really come to love Texas and the people that live here. We would be honored for you to give us a call when you are out this way.
